History of Women’s Health and Fitness
Women’s health and fitness conditions were not the same in the history as they are today.
The health and fitness of women in history was not the same as we see today. Health and fitness during the earlier time had a completely alternative meaning, and women’s health was affected by the position they enjoyed in the society.
The WHO (World Health Organization) describes Health as a state of complete Physical, Social and Mental well-being. Here we take a number of examples to know about women’s health and fitness in the history:-
The Reign of Hitler
During Hitler’s reign in Germany, women were treated merely as machines to produce children. The primary job of a woman was to produce children and teach them to worship war and Hitler. Women who produced a lot of children were rewarded, while others were humiliated in public. This humiliation was the cause of degradation of health in women. Women during Hitler’s rule were socially unhealthy.
Conditions in Poor and Undeveloped Countries
In many poor and undeveloped countries like India, women were treated in a very inhumane way. They were considered to be lower than men and had a number of restriction in the society. Some of these included ban on widow re-marriage, child marriage, and preference of boy child. Women remained fit mainly by doing heavy household work. They were, however socially and in some cases, physically unhealthy.
Working Women
History did not witness much working women. Women’s jobs were restricted to household work and care-taking of children. Thus, most of the women remained fit by doing heavy household work.
By the above examples, we can conclude that women in history were not healthy, though they were fit physically.
