Pennies Worth More?

The price to make a penny has government thinking.

Those pennies that are found under your couch, office desk or just on the street are worth more then you think. The current cost of manufacturing a penny is $0.0126 or 1.26 cents. It costs more then the face value. The weight of a penny is now 2.50 grams when in 1982 was 3.11 grams. Pennies today have less copper and more zinc.

Another coin problem is the Nickle. The Nickle costs $0.077 or 7.7 cents. Perhaps there is no bargain to make coins for the US government. People used to melt dimes because there once was a time when the metal in a dime was worth more then 10 cents!
