Teabagger Nonsense

Published by Ruby Hawk in History
February 19th, 2010

The teabaggers are bringing their nonsense to large cities and small towns alike. Tim Shiflett from Summerville, Georgia wrote a letter to the Editor of the Summerville News voicing his opinion about the teabaggers and their politics.

My sister gave me a subscription to our hometown newspaper for Christmas. (The Summerville News) It comes out once a week and I just love it. The people in this small north Georgia town don’t mind giving their opinion on any subject. They feel free to write to the editor about anything they have an interest in and that’s the reason “Letters to the Editor” is my favorite page. I got a big kick out of a letter in last weeks paper. It was written by Tim Shifflet. It’s a long letter and I echo Tim’s opinion.

Tim Shifflet wrote:

Editor, so now this teabagger nonsense comes to Summerville. And, I have to be honest. From the beginning, I have looked on these teabaggers, and thought of them largely as outright idiots. Now, I am certain of it.

They say President Obama is a Socialist. And that’s an outright lie. This bunch of right wingers couldn’t distinguish the difference between a genuine Socialist and third base. Some of them even say the president wasn’t born in this country. I guess the two local newspapers in Honolulu who announced his birth in 1961 were in on the conspiracy.

They say they are non-partisan. But, I would be willing to bet that almost every last one of them in the teabagger crowd the other night who votes, cast their vote for the Republican in the 08 presidential election. If they are non-partisan, why wasn’t I invited to speak at their meeting? I certainly would have come. But I seriously doubt they would have enjoyed what I had to say. I would have been glad to be there. Of course, they were not going to invite me, because they are any thing but non-partisan.

They say they are a “grass roots movements” to that I would like to ask these questions. Ever hear of Roger Ailes? Ever hear of Frank Strategies? Ever hear of Freedom Works? I’ll be glad to answer. Roger Ailes is news director for the Republican Fox News. Frank Strategies is in business solely to promote the GOP, and it’s causes. Freedom Works is another GOP organization founded by right-winger-Dick Armey, the former House Majority Leader. All three have been involved in developing the teabagger parties on a national scale. In reality the teabaggers are being organized to be political pawns to help the Republicans regain power. They are mad as hell because they lost the last two elections.

An interesting piece, though I am left wondering what a teabagger is.

Great letter. I see stupid bumper stickers like “Lost your job yet? Thank Obama!” What rot. He didn’t create this mess, he’s just trying to clean it up. And I’m a Republican!

I heard a joke the other day: The Obama administration is honoring the 43rd president (G.W. Bush) by naming the space between the tectonic plates in Haiti after him. Henceforth it shall be known as “Bush’s Fault.”

I think, unfortunately, that we will always have these “grass roots” organizations among us. They refuse to place blame on the GOP for anything, but would rather be led by intolerance, ignorance and bigotry.

I am not into the specifics of American politics and never heard of teabaggers until now. Do teabaggers distinguish amongst themselves? Oh, he is only a round one but she is all triangle. Can’t please all the people etc.

    Interesting post….well written….

I thought at first you were going to discuss people who are so cheap that they order hot water in restaurants and bring their own teabags. The 1773 date is the clue that jogged my memory – the Boston Tea Party.

  11. Posted February 19, 2010 at 1:23 pm

A history repeating itself! Great share Ruby.

  12. Posted February 19, 2010 at 2:56 pm

I don’t drink tea enough to care if Obama is a socialist or not. Can he improve the state of the world is what I care about. That goes for everything and everyone else mentioned in regards to teabagging. To quote the film Dazed and Confused “Remember what you’re celebrating, is that a bunch of rich landowners didn’t want to pay their taxes.” The quote was about the Bicenttinial (SP?) but it relates to the tea party too. They didn’t have tea bags in 1776? Good! When I do have tea I like to use a tea ball.

Good information, Ruby! Letters to the Editor’s is a good way for the common guy to get a point across. Thanks

    Good information, Ruby.

  15. Posted February 20, 2010 at 1:29 am

I quite agree. I find much of the rhetoric coming from teabaggers to be absolutely ridiculous and outright lies.

  16. Posted February 20, 2010 at 8:17 am

Instead of blaming other people why don’t they just work together for the common good.

  17. Posted February 20, 2010 at 10:41 am

Oh, ok, I thought teabagger was someone who went around smacking people with tea bags. Interesting article.

After the smoke clears, I hope Sarah Palin is not the next president.

Personally the idea that Obama ruined the economy just strikes me as idiotic.

Then again the idea that Bush ruined the economy is also idiotic.

Presidents have very little control over if the economy succeeds or fails. Clinton wasn’t responsible for the Tech boom, Bush wasn’t responsible for the recession and Obama isn’t at fault for the economy’s slughish recovery.

Though the Fed and Carter, Bush 1, Clinton, Bush 2 are all somewhat responsible for the recession since they all encouraged low lending rates which helped cause the housing bubble. None of them are entirely responsible though.

That said Presidents economic impact is generally WAY overstated.

American history is rife with crackpots and crackpot political movements. The teabaggers are the latest in this phenomenon, with noted quitter Sarah Palin as their de facto deity. I’m not sure Palin is capable of running a kiddie lemonade stand.

Thanks, John McCain, for foisting this undereducated idiot on the country and the world. Can she still see Russia from her back door?

  26. Posted February 21, 2010 at 4:51 am

Interesting article but don’t know what a teabagger is.

  27. Posted February 21, 2010 at 6:41 am

Politics, politics, false ethics. I like it well, Ruby.

  28. Posted February 21, 2010 at 8:50 am

The teabaggers are only gaining momentum because both parties are failing us badly. 15% popularity rating of congress; a president with a declining popularity rating, blowing up our deficit; an opposition party not giving us any new ideas….a jobless recovery is not a recovery. I don’t know anyone with a green job. And I don’t see anything getting better with the Democats since they have had control since the mid-term election of 2006. Time to get rid of this two party system that is just not working for average Americans in a globalized economy.

  29. Posted February 21, 2010 at 10:25 am

I see a lot of the comments don’t understand very much of the history of this “grassroots” movement. This movement used to be filled mostly with Libertarians, not Republicans. It hasn’t been until recently that republicans, like Palin, have taken control of it. The Teabaggers used to be very critical of the republican party, but now they are used as a propaganda machine for the GOP….And for those that are saying Obama is doing a great job: Look at him and look at Bush. He is making the mistakes that Bush did. It is time to out both major parties and get people in the government who actually care about the people they represent, unlike the GOP and Dems.

    interesting article

  31. Posted February 21, 2010 at 11:23 am

Plus you teabaggers need to know there were no such thing as a tea bag in 1773.

    Love this article!

  32. Posted February 21, 2010 at 7:39 pm

Maybe the Teabaggers are equal to the idiocy of Acorn. Though probably not. Time will tell. They haven’t had a chance to show any real level of corruption if it’s there. However on the other hand Acorn had plenty of time to show their corruption to the world and certainly did. Like I said, Only time will tell. I myself would like to see a third party rise up. one that upholds the law of the land( you know that inconvienent document called the Constitution) instead of all the crap the democrats and republicans stand for. Pork attached to every bill, threats and bribes for votes. total disregard of what the voters want. Just doing what ever profits them and their agendas.

  33. Posted February 22, 2010 at 12:56 pm

The Republicans are merely people who for the most part intend to use the American people and the American economy to make the lives of their friends and families luxurious and wealthy. Teabaggers currently are people they desire to draw in to help them with their schemes with promises of looking out for them (The ole bait and switch).

  34. Posted February 23, 2010 at 6:42 am

Leonardo what does that make the democrat? And no I am not a republican but honestly I am sick and tired of both parties demonizing the other when in fact they are both equally to blame for our problems today.

  35. Posted February 23, 2010 at 1:19 pm

Nice share. To be very frank, till I read this article, I was unaware of the term teabaggers.

  36. Posted February 23, 2010 at 8:32 pm

Politics like corporations have evolved into inward looking, self serving, and soulless. They’re all rubbish and do the bare minimum to represent the people. The only thing left is to make fun of them – it’s the only political joy we get these days.

  37. Posted February 23, 2010 at 9:10 pm

Thanks to Tim Shifflett for writing the article and to Ruby for sharing it with a wider audience. I often feel despair at the idiocy of the teabaggers and how they’re working against their own self interest. People like Tim gives me hope.

Democrats are people who traditionally attempted to look out for the welfare of the American people, but by making the mistake of choosing ways and means which do not leave people independant, but supervised, instead of free. The American people are rejecting such supervision and want helpful policies which leave them room to breath, and room to manuver.

  42. Posted February 24, 2010 at 5:37 pm

It’s a good post.Kind of one sided, but thats the way things are today. If it isnt the democrats its the republicans spinning the situation. It’s this constant scramble to out manuever each other thats contributing to our problems. My opinion is that all the leaders share the blame equally.I think we should get rid of them all and start over.Because at the end of the day we are all in this together

  43. Posted February 25, 2010 at 8:28 pm

Ruby I love you but your buddy is so wrong here. The financial collapse was a direct result of the government interfering with the free markets. The collapse was a result of the easy loans made by freddie and fannie that were fraught with fraud. The problem was not the poor minority buyers it was that the rules allowed investors to get in way over their heads. the poor minority buyers for the most part are still in their homes the investors bailed in droves and let the banks take the losses.

Tea baggers was a term coined by the left not the right. the tea parties were encouraging people to mail a bag of tea to washington as a reminder of our history. It was probably started by lipton. He he he.

The war was a result of our country being attacked numerous times and not reacting with significant force. Somalia, the Khobar towers, The embassies in africa, The Cole. all happened under the dems and then a year into Bushes Presidency they struck us on our soil and were met with the force we should have used after the first attack.

Little grains of truth on all sides. Ruby, you sure put the cat among the pigeons with this one! Nice share.

Ruby-great stuff! We need to do away with Republican and Democrat and just have one big block party so everybody can wake up tomorrow with a hangover and a lack of memory of what has happened in the past nine years Maybe then we could all just get on with our lives and do what is right***Buy American*** @BradOneill-blah blah blame game…
