How to Tell If You are a Music Dork
Many people love music, but few can claim the title of “Music Dork.” This useful checklist will help you decide if are truly a music dork.
I’ve known since I was a kid that I liked music. But it was only recently that I realized I am truly a music dork. You, too, might be a music dork if:
- You know how to play more than five instruments.
- You take every music theory quiz around, hoping to prove that you are the smartest of all your musical friends.
- You knew you would marry your date when he pointed out the composer (John Williams) of the movie score (The Lost World) at the same time as you.
- You loved going to church just so that you could harmonize, and your absolute favourite church songs had the alto (or whatever you sing) lead.
- You know all the intervals by song, your favourite being the minor seventh, the first two notes of “Somewhere” from West Side Story.

- When you refer to deceased musical geniuses, you say that they are decomposing.
- You spent a good portion of your childhood harmonizing with your Nintendo.
- You are now extremely proud of your son for his ability to harmonize with his Wii.
- You’re mentally (and proudly) making your own list to add to mine.

Interesting! I think some of these apply to me! (french horn, trumpet, clarinet, basoon, tuba, trombone player) Nicely written.
I am almost as dorky as you are! I don\’t have the memory for composers hence the \”almost\”. This is a good read.

I knew it – I’m pretty dorky. Piano, Organ, violin (badly!), accordion, trumpet, baritone, clarinet, bagpipes (once decades ago). Have played in a handbell choir, high school band, sung in many choirs, love to harmonize, sight read (for singing – sightreading in piano stinks!). Music reigns! (Well, actually God does, but He gave us music . . . )
