We all came to know and love Patrick Swayze in the famous movie, Ghost. Today, he has crossed over to become one. But how well do we really know him? Below are some quick facts regarding the life and death of the man who has been a staple in Hollywood.

  1. He was People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alove in 1991.
  2. He was casted in a lead role in January of this year for the series, The Beast. However, due to his health condition, the show was cancelled later in June of the same year.
  3. Patrick Swayze is the result of a love between a choreographer/dancer and an engineering draftsman.
  4. In younger life, Patrick Swayze was into ice skating, ballet, and even had formal gymnastics training for two years.
  5. Our first glimpse of Swayze was as a dancer in Disney on Parade.
  6. The role that catapulted him into stardom was as dance instructor in Dirty Dancing, which was originally intended to be shown only for a week but surprisingly became a hit.
  7. Swayze wrote and sang one of Dirty Dancing’s soundtracks, “She’s Like the Wind”. This same song is later to make it to the hit charts and was even revived as a hip-hop song in Germany.
  8. The hip-hop slang “I’m Swayze” is in reference to the movie Ghost. It means “I’m leaving”.
  9. Swayze broke both legs and had four detached tendons while filming Letters from a Killer.
  10. Swayze’s wife, Lisa Niemi, took dance lessons from the former’s mother when she was 14. That was how they met.
  11. Swayze’s father died in 1982 from heart attack while his sister Vicky later committed suicide. The former threw him in the dark world of alcoholism while the latter encouraged him to seek treatment.
  12. Patrick Swayze is a licensed pilot.
  13. He was a Roman Catholic abut later on also explored other faiths such as Buddhism, Bahai Faith and even Scientology.
