We don’t often think about what a month is. For most of us it is just another page on the calendar. Well, here are some interesting facts about the month of October:

Name: October.

October has 31 days. It’s the 10th month of the year according to the Gregorian Calendar. This was not always the case though. According to the old Roman Calendar October was the 8th month, thus the use of the Latin term for eight – octo – in the name.

October is a month of transition and as far as I’m concerned it is one of the most beautiful months of the year. During October the northern climates usually suffer the first frosts of the year. This triggers the leaves to change colors and fall.

By now, migrating birds are in the process of flocking together and feeding in swarms as they move south. Crops are ripe and being harvested. People everywhere, are preparing for the long months of winter.

October is our reminder that winter is coming but not here just yet. There are still some warm days ahead of us. Enjoy then while you can.
