Rafflesia Arnoldii in Batang Palupuh
Rafflesia Arnoldii, the “corpse flower,” is a rare plant that still can be found in Batang Palupuh, West Sumatra, Indonesia.
There is a village in West Sumatra called “Batang Palupuh”. The village located about 20 km from Bukittinggi (West Sumatra) to Medan (North Sumatra). The village is surrounding by hills and big trees rain forest. That area is a conservation area for Rafflesia Arnoldii. In West Sumatra, Rafflesia Arnoldii only can be found there.
Local people say that Rafflesia grows in 9 months and blooms just in a week. Not many visitors can see when it blooms.

The flower produces a scent that attracts insects such as flies which then the flies pollinate the rare plant and die there. That why it was called as “corpse flower”.
My school teacher says that Rafflesia Arnoldii is the largest flower. Rafflesia Arnoldii is threatened or endangered. The forest that it lives is remaining disappear because of illegal logging, exploitation and conversion.
