10 Off-Putting and Unfortunately True Facts
The world is certainly not a clean place. These facts are just a taste of how dirty the world we live in really is.
So I was bored at home so I decided to write about something. Initially I had no idea what I was going to write about but I finally decided that I would compile a list of off-putting facts which happened to amazed me the most. I chose 10 facts which I found to be the most surprising and interesting to read about and I put them here for your reading.
- A kitchen environment is not as clean as you would think. On average, a house’s bathroom is cleaner than its kitchen. Interestingly enough, the kitchen floor is actually cleaner than the kitchen sink.
- One study showed that 30% of public restroom users did not wash their hands, and yet 90% claimed they did. Think twice before touching that door handle on the way out with your bare hands.
- Another study showed that 50% of homes had faecal matter in their washing machines. Not surprisingly, the majority of the faecal matter was found in a pair of underwear with as much as ten grams. You would thinking washing would have rid the clothes and the machine of faecal matter but in some cases, all it really does is spread it around.
- Eye crust, the crusty, yellowy build-up found around your eyes, or “sleep” as it is commonly known, contains urine.
- Insect flatulence accounts for around 1/5th of the earth’s methane emissions. Major contributors include termites and cockroaches, with cockroaches continuing to release methane for as long as 18 hours after death.
- Methane, a gas commonly found in flatulence is indeed flammable and is used for lighting stoves. Igniting flatulence is a common game among young drunks and can lead to singed hairs or second degree burns.
- In Tanzania, Africa, spit is often seen as a show of good will among the Masai. This results in newborn babies often being spat on while deals are often agreed upon by spitting on ones hand before shaking.
- Some unfortunate people’s bodies lack a particular enzyme in order to absorb a protein made from the stomach. This results in the person emitting a foul, fishy smelling odour which is particularly noticeable when they sweat.
- Many theme park rides turn vomit into a deadly weapon. When people vomit on a ride with centrifugal force (rides that involve spinning), it clings to their face and nose preventing the person from breathing. There have been cases of people drowning in their own vomit. What a way to go…
- If you try to stop yourself from throwing up by closing your mouth, it will come out your nose.
