Anyone for Ice Cream Trivia?

Are you a trivia buff? Maybe you can learn something from this tid bit.

Long before  Tastee Freeze soft ice cream was a house hold name, there was another brand. One of the oldest brands is “Carvel”. It made one of it’s debut in Hagerstown, Maryland in the late 1940’s. My daddy co owed a Carvel stand when it was introduced to the area around the airport. Carvel made soft serve all over the east coast and then moved into the mid section of the country. The Carvel cakes were solid ice cream, while the cones remained soft serve .Ice cream sandwiches became a later item for production by Carvel.

Mmmm…yummy article. I love ice cream cakes and we have a local maker, Sanders, that has been making ice cream toppings, cakes, cream puffs and ice cream sodas since the 1800’s.

I did not know that Roberta. I know that I like Dairy Queen. There is a difference from other soft ice cream, which many do not realize.

I grew up in South Jersey and I remember Carvel! What a treat!

Are you trying to tell me that Carvel doesn’t exist anymore?
I got an icecream birthday cake from them once…and it was absolutely delicious!
While growing up, Carvel was a little too pricey for the parents of five growing children to afford…maybe this is one of the main reasons why Carvel has gone the way of the dinosaurs.
