Four Astonishing Things You Didn’t Know, But Now Do

A list of four random things that you didn’t know, but now do.

1. Pope Pius II Wrote an Erotic Novel

Before Aeneas Sylvius Piccolomini became pope, he was an author. In fact, one of the best in his times. He wrote many poems and books, and a few best-sellers. He even wrote erotic poems and books. One of them being “The Tale of the Two Lovers”. It is the tale of a married woman, Lucretia, and Euryalus. The book contains lots of erotic imagery. It was written in Latin in 1444, and has been translated to many languages. The book was also very comical. “If you leap upon my horse, I shall do the same thing to your wife!” Too bad Popes don’t write like that anymore, they would have wrote very good books!

2. Two Atomic Bombs Were Dropped, but Didn’t Explode in North Dakota

On january 21, 1961, on a B-52 was carrying two nuclear bombs, Fat Man and Little Boy. The B-52 was flying when the right wings’ leaked fuel and exploded. Three of the crewmen died, but five survived. The two MARK 39’s were 250 times more powerful then the one was dropped on Hiroshima. Luckily, on one of the A-bombs, it’s parachute safely opened, and glided down to earth, while the other’s parachute didn’t open and fell right down to Earth. Fortunately, the nukes didn’t explode. You might be thinking, “why would the U.S. have nuclear bombs flying over their own soil, and why didn’t they explode when they hit Earth?” Well, back then, the Defense Department had a program to always keep nuclear devices in the air ready to be dropped at any given moment. To activate the bombs, all the pilot had to do is to turn on a switch to arm the nukes. Luckily, during the accident didn’t trigger the switches.

3. The Police Don’t Have to Protect You

When you think of the police, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? “911″? “Help”? “To Serve and Protect”?  Well, the police are legally obligated to protect you, no matter what the case. Only in a few areas in Canada and the U.S. do the police have to protect you. In the case of Warren versus the District of Colombia, three women were being raped and tortured for over 15 hours after calling 911 that they heard the screams of a room mate. When the women tried to sue, after being ensured that the police were on there way, they failed. The Constitution states that it “does not impose a duty on the stat and local government to the protection of citizens from criminal harm.”

4. Guess What the Defense Department Wanted to do to Afghanistan After 9/11?

After 9/11, President George W. Bush and National Security Advisor Condeleeza Rice headed to the Pentagon to be briefed on what was going to be done with Afghanistan. Prepared was a list of different operations ready to be executed. Before the slide presentation, Condeleeza Rice took a look at it. One of the slides was about poising food supplies in Afghanistan, which was banned by treaties signed by the U.S. Once Rice saw this slide, it was removed.
