About the different varieties of wolves.

Wolves live in packs, there is usually an alpha male as well as an alpha female. There are several types of wolves. These animals are endangered.

Red Wolf

The red wolf is extinct in the wild. Only in captivity can they be found. Fear, misunderstanding and superstition caused these wolves to be hunted almost to extinction. Only about 300 red wolves live in these captive breeding programs.

Gray Wolf

The Gray Wolf has been in existence since the Ice Age. In the lower 48 States about 2500 Gray wolves roam. In Alaska about 7500 live. A few years ago Gray Wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park. These wolves are considered Endangered.

Arctic Wolf

Arctic wolves are well adapted to very cold temperatures. The Arctic Wolves numbers have gone up in the last several years because they have less contact with humans.
