Scientists believe that some pet animals like cat can smell biological changes in people’s body before they die. A cat named Oscar has been able to sense when nursing home residents are about to die. He lies in bed next to that person proving warmth and comfort.

Skunk

One of the yuckiest and smelliest animals is the Skunk. It can spray its foul odor about 10 to 15 feet and it can be smelled from at least a mile away.

Sea Otter

Sea otters have the thickest fur in the world with about 1 million hairs per square inch. That is more than 10 times the amount of hair on a human head.

Capuchin Monkey

Capuchin monkeys are quick learners and known for their dexterity. They also have a lifespan of about 40 years. Because of these attributes, they are of great help for people in wheelchairs or who are unable to move in other ways.

It is not true that when geese migrate, the strongest always take the lead. They take turns leading so that no one goose has to fly in the most difficult position the entire time. We all know that they fly in V formation to cut down on wind resistance and save their energy. The formation also enables the geese to see one another as they fly.

Sea Squirt

Sea squirt’s brain helps it to locate a rock or other hard surface to attach itself to for life. Once it’s attached, it eats its own brain within a few days because it’s no longer needed.

Pigeons have been used as messengers for centuries. They were used during the 2 World Wars and there were 32 pigeons presented with the Dickin Medal. Today, they are fitted with tiny vest to deliver blood samples or news photographers’ film from remote places to either laboratories or newsrooms.

In order to produce a pound of honey, honeybees have to visit about 2 million flowers and have to travel a total distance of about twice the earth’s circumference.

Ocean Quahog

Male Seahorse

The male Seahorse assumes the responsibility for holding and hatching the eggs by receiving them from the female and storing them in its pouch until they are ready to be born. The eggs hatch inside the male, who then squeezes them out.

European Hedgehog

Some medicines are from animals. The blood plasma of the European Hedgehog can prevent uncontrolled bleeding.

Hippopotamus

Would you believe that hippopotamuses and horses are related? They share the same kingdom, phylum and class.

But hippo’s order, Artiodactyla, includes mammals that have an even toe like goats, sheep, pigs, camels, deer, antelope and cattle.

Scientists discovered that the saliva of leech have medicinal properties. It acts as anesthetic that kills pain. It acts as anticoagulant to keeps blood from clotting and as vasodilator to increases blood flow in the arteries and veins.

Blowfish

Some animals have a unique way of communicating. The Blowfish or Pufferfish can swallow water and expand to twice its size to scare off a predator.

Seahorse

The Seahorse has been described as having the head of a horse, the tail of a monkey, the pouch of a kangaroo, the hard outer skeleton of an insect and the independently moving eyes of a chameleon.

    Great article, very interesting. I did know some of the facts already as I’m sure many did, but I had no idea that Quahogs could live to be 400+ years old. Also I never even heard of a Sea Squirt before. That was a very weird fact you found out about it. Let us know if you find any more such facts.
