Ant Eaters

Ant eaters are the animals which like the name suggests eat ants. Giant Ant Eater is one of the animals that belong to the same breed as well. The other or the scientific name given to Giant Ant Eater is Myrmecophaga Tridactyle. They come under Mamalia class and Myrmecophagidea family under the scientific classification. Giant Ant Eaters are known to be the largest of all the ant eating animals. This kind of Ant Eating Animal is mostly found in the parts of South America. Usually the animal is considered to be a lonely creature.


The few characteristics of the creature include it not being very aggressive and But can prove to be very dangerous at the time if any kind of danger is suspected. The main problem with the species is that their habitats are being destroyed where they are facing the stage of extinction. Before they are born, mother has to keep them inside her for a period of 190 days. From the time when they born, they are carried on the back of their mother till the age of around 9 – 12 months and moreover as they reach to the age of 2 – 3.5 years, they reach to the age they are called as sexually matured ones.


The Giant Ant Eater is mostly found in swamps, grasslands and tropical forests. As mentioned above they have been found in the parts from Southern Belize to Argentina and the areas including densely as well as scarcely populated areas. The maximum length in which the animal grows up to is about 7 feet and generally their weight is about 86 lbs. The animal is known to have sharp claws which can grow up to 3 – 5 inches long. It is covered with hair so it’s mostly found in brown and grey color with stripes of black and white in between.
