Caracals

Wild cats known as the desert lynx.

Caracals are wild cats resembling Eurasian Lynxes. They have compact bodies They weigh 28-40 pounds. These cats are recognizable by their elongated, black tufted ears.

Although Caracals resemble Eurasian Lynxes they are more closely related to Servals or African Golden Cats.

Caracal coat colors can include the tawny of a mountain lion, gray, sand colored or black.

Caracals are native to Western Asia and Africa. Their habitat is usually desert, or steppe hence the name Desert Lynx at times however these cats are found in dense forests. They either live alone or in pairs. In the wild these cats are very good at hiding. It is very hard to get a glimpse of these creatures. You may see them in zoos or animal parks. Caracals ma y be easily tamed. You may buy caracals kitten as pets, however, that does not mean you should. There is a reason they are called wild cats.
