Strange Trees
Plant world has provided man with life-saving and life-giving herbs. In fact, animal life depends upon plant life. But there are some trees that seem actually to belong to the world fairies. Since they are not common they may be called strange.
The Asclepias of Ethiopia is one of the strange trees. It pours out milky liquid form its leaves that causes total blindness if the milk slightly touches the eyes.
Mexico in North America has a very rare tree called the “Tree of the Bad Woman”. The mere touch of this tree causes fever. It is twisted and bare. Another tree called “Dynamite” in Mexico produces a large number of big grounds. These gourds when ripe explode with a terrible noise.
In the West Indies grows a tree called Agcacia. Its leaves if rubbed on the body of the horse make the animals hair to fall. A particular grass growing there if fed to the horse will help it grow hair again but of a different color.
The leaves of the traveler’s tree growing in Malaysia make a big noise in the wind. Some trees in the West Indies are called Musical trees. When the wind passes through their leaves a strange musical sound is produced. A tree called Tsofar growing in Nubia produces sweet music. A tree in Jamaica glows in the dark.
In California in the U.S.A. grows a tree called elephant tree. The slightest cut in its trunk or branch makes a blood-like liquid flow out.
A tree in the Amazon jungle in South America gives out white latex like sap that can be used as milk. It is appropriately called the cow tree. If allowed to thicken, the latex can serve as glue.
The weeping Fir gives a long fruit. Cattle fed on it become fat. The juice of the fruit can be used as lamp oil.
The SappIndus of Africa can be called soap tree. The juice of its fruit produces lather and can be used for washing clothes etc.
