Take Care of Your Eyes
God has blessed man with his choicest blessings. The five sensory organs coupled with reasoning have given us an edge over other living beings. Eyes, through which we see and understand and enjoy are the greatest of all gifts. We must take care of them so that they are useful all our life.
What are the most common ailments that affect our lives? Some of the following defects manifest themselves very early in life, some times within six months of the birth. They are: blurred vision, constant headaches, eye ache, and migraine, watering eyes, red eyes, and black spots, eye diseases due to diabetes, glaucoma, cataract, retinal detachment, and eye injuries.
Regular eye checkup is an important part of total eye care. Early detection, through timely treatment, certainly prevents loss of vision from many eye disorders.
Refractive error is an irregularly in the way the light passes through the eye. This is the main cause of blurred or distorted vision. When refractive error is present light rays are not focused at one point on the Retina. They are neither refracted nor bent properly to achieve one single point on the Retina.
Myopia or Short Sightedness
With a Myopic eye one cannot see distant objects clearly. The eye is too long and the images form in front of the retina.
Hyperopia or Long Sightedness
A person affected with long-sightedness cannot focus on near objects. One suffers from eye strain and headaches.
Astigmatism of Cylindrical Error
a person with this vision defect would see some lines blurred. Both near and distant lines, whether they are vertical, horizontal or oblique are not seen clearly because the camera is regularly shaped.
Prebyopia
This defect is found in everyone after the age of 40 in addition to other defects mentioned above. The crystalline lens loses its elasticity and the ability to focus on close objects or small print gradually declines. We find it difficult to view objects nearer. Regular eye check up and timely treatment helps to correct the disorders.
