You’ve probably seen them hundreds of times and never even considered what they’re called. But now you know.
Chimsil
You know that third brake light that sits in the middle of your car’s rear window? It’s called a Chimsil.
Kimble
When you buy a piece of clothing, very often the store’s labels are connected by a thin piece of nylon thread. This is a Kimble. It’s attached by (a bit disappointing this one) a Kimble Gun.
Tittle
Ever wondered what the dot at the top of the letter ‘i’ is called? Well now you know. It’s a Tittle.
Aglets
Those little bits of plastic that stop the ends of your shoelaces fraying? They’re Aglets.
Contrail
When a plane is high up in a clear blue sky and leaves a thin white trail behind it, the proper name for it isn’t a vapour trail, it’s a Contrail.
Spoffle
You know the soft, spongy cover that goes over a microphone? Its job is to soften the ‘impact’ of hard consonants and improve listening pleasure. It’s also called a Spoffle.
Demitasse
Ever wondered if the little cup that your espresso arrives in has a special name? It does. It’s called a Demitasse.
