You’ve probably seen them hundreds of times and never even considered what they’re called. But now you know.

Chimsil

You know that third brake light that sits in the middle of your car’s rear window? It’s called a Chimsil.

Kimble

When you buy a piece of clothing, very often the store’s labels are connected by a thin piece of nylon thread. This is a Kimble. It’s attached by (a bit disappointing this one) a Kimble Gun.

Tittle

Ever wondered what the dot at the top of the letter ‘i’ is called? Well now you know. It’s a Tittle.

Aglets

Those little bits of plastic that stop the ends of your shoelaces fraying? They’re Aglets.

Contrail

When a plane is high up in a clear blue sky and leaves a thin white trail behind it, the proper name for it isn’t a vapour trail, it’s a Contrail.

Spoffle

You know the soft, spongy cover that goes over a microphone? Its job is to soften the ‘impact’ of hard consonants and improve listening pleasure. It’s also called a Spoffle.

Demitasse

Ever wondered if the little cup that your espresso arrives in has a special name? It does. It’s called a Demitasse.

Wordsmithing! What fun! Thanks for these little goodies. Vaguely started to recall 2 and it came up to the surface when mentioned. Only knew one. Hint: it’s related to that guy called coffee… share a grin, ~ denny
