World’s Heaviest Bell Has Never Been Rung

Published by Louie Jerome in Trivia

The heaviest bell ever cast stand in the Kremlin, in Moscow. It has never been rung.

The heaviest bell in the world is housed within the old Kremlin area.

It weighs one hundred and ninety six metric tonnes and stands at five point eight seven metres high. It is known as the Czar  (Tsar) Kolokol bell and was originally cast in 1735, two years later it was cracked in a fire.

There is a platform at the foot of the eighty metres tall bell tower which was originally meant to hold the bell.  The cracked bell stands on this platform and it has never been rung.

The name ‘Kremlin’ meant ‘town’, or ‘city fortress,’ and the original building was of wooden construction.

During the fifteenth century the fortress walls were rebuilt in red brick and the buildings were extended, refurbished, repaired and altered, but the world’s heaviest bell was never repaired and housed in the tower.

Nice one,It’s a fascination piece of work,I would like to see this piece in close range-it seems to have other designs that may hold a deeper meaning to the bell or as to why the bell was made the way it was.
